MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge
After graduating from Caius College, Cambridge, Paul H. Dear spent a year working with Dr. (now Sir) Greg Winter at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, before undertaking a D. Phil in genomics at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology in Oxford. He returned to the LMB in 1992, first under Greg Winter and then as a group leader, developing and applying a range of techniques for genomic analyses. His current research focusses on single-molecule approaches to genomics, combining classical molecular biology with microfluidics, optics and robotics. The central theme is the development of new techniques, with current applications including the analysis of copy-number variation in early cancer.
